The Vespaholics is a New Vespa Club and is open to all riders who love the Vespa Scooter be they geared or auto. The club is based on two guiding principles, No Subs just Pubs and No Rules just Riding.

Vespaholism is a disabling addictive disorder. Its sufferers are called vespaholics. It is characterized by compulsive and uncontrolled riding of vespa scooters despite its negative effects on the riders health, relationships, and social standing. Like other drug addictions, vespaholism is medically defined as a treatable disease. The term vespaoholism is widely used, and was first coined in 1957 by Magnus Huss, but in medicine the term was replaced by the concepts of "vespa abuse" and "vespa dependence" in the 1960s. Similarly in 1979 an expert World Health Organisation committee disfavoured the use of "vespaholism" as a diagnostic entity, preferring the category of "vespa dependence syndrome" We prefer to call ourselves Vespaholics.

Got to the pub for about 7pm to be met by the first of the revellers, Cliff Evans from Fatboy Promotions, by about 7.30 people were turning up thick and fast, lots just to see the band, P45. Was then told the band were not going to show!!! Dont panic, we thought, will simply tell people the score, and knock a pound of the admission price. We had plenty of Dj’s, Young Kirsty from the Vespaholics, Mr Doe and Skinhead Ian. We were also joined by Olas Boss with his record collection so plenty of music too be played! The pub was filling up thick and fast now, about 80-90 people through the door. Suddenly, the band turn up! 10.30pm but they made it. As usual they went down a storm playing a mixture of their own stuff and some classics. We passed a bucket round for a collection for Blesma, The British Limbless Ex-Serviceman’s Association and collected £105.17p. Dont know what time it went on to, i got home about 3.30am but a top night was had by all. Thanks to all those that turned out to support us at the end of our first year, and special thanks to Kirsty, John, Paul, Ian, Olas Boss and P45 and all the staff and management of the Cherry Tree. Dont forget, our 2nd Anniversary Party…. 31st December 2012!

The Vespaholics supporting the AFSC & BLESMA during 2012

BLESMA (British Limbless Ex Service Men’s Association) is the national charity for limbless serving and ex-service men and women and their dependants and widows.

The concept is a complete year of fundraising for AFSC Members as individuals and groups culminating in a big push “Ride for BLESMA”.
BLESMA and The AFSC Committee are onside and we have a plan!

BLESMA have allocated The AFSC an account number and a code to pay monies in along with a running balance that can be seen on line! This way we can maximise our efforts to incorporate individual projects and group efforts such as The AFSC Thrash collection!

“Ride for BLESMA 2012” will see a group of AFSC Members meeting up in the Newcastle area where the first of many fundraisers will take place!

The operation will have 8 phases:

Phase 1. Sunday 30th September 2012 RV At Newcastle with Simon, Daz and Cav the Sunday before RTTW

Phase 2. Monday 1st October 2012 morning set off to RV at Mik n Sue’s in Cleethorpes, Mik is organising a fundraiser so we can pass the tins around for BLESMA!

Phase 3. Tuesday 2nd October 2012 set off to Chester to meet with The Chester AFSC Posse and Bollox speed, Joe will replicate Mik’s efforts

Phase 4. Wednesday 3rd October 2012 set off to Leicester to meet with Dave and Mitch and The Phoenix Nights SC and again collect for BLESMA!

Phase 5. Thursday 4th October 2012 set off to RV at Daz and Philippa ‘s in Dagenham, Daz is organising a fundraiser with The
Vespaholics so we can pass the tins around for BLESMA!

Phase 6. Friday 5th October 2012 set off to RTTW and meet up with the crew, get as much money as we can from the bikers! To donate online click the link: http://www.justgiving.com/Vespaholics-Melbourne

Magical Mystery Rideout 29/08/2011

Didn’t expect too get many turn up for this, what with it being Bank Holiday Weekend and clashing with the Isle of Wight Rally and Scoots & Boots. We were not disappointed. 13 scooters, with a couple riding pillion gave us a total of 15 people lol. Oh well, it was a great ride anyways. We left The City Pavillion at midday and headed up towards the lanes at Abridge. Down towards Stanford Rivers and through the twisting lanes towards Ongar. The roads were wet here, but thankfully we avoided the heavy rain that had blighted most of this weekend. Down the Brentwood Road past the Secret Nuclear Bunker ( not so secret nowdays! ) The roads here are great for riding, empty of traffic and no traffic lights, onwards through Kelvedon Hatch and onto Navestockside and then a sharp right towards South Weald and Noak Hill. We arrived at our destination, The Morris Dancer in Harold Hill after a loverly 23 mile ride. Not a bad Pub, first day of opening, fairly decent location and one of our members works behind the bar! A few sandwiches and sausage rolls were laid on for us which was nice. A few members of the East London Motor Scooter Club turned up as they lived just accross the road from the pub. All in all a great little ride. Special thanks too Tina and Ian from the Welwyn Stags Scooter Club and Michael Hanrahan and Matt Sullivan from the Fab Scooter Club for turning out to support us.

Titch.
